Happy Kinda Ranting

Finally after waiting for about a month, my Avent bottles arrived today. Well it actually arrived YESTERDAY MORNING but the guards did not allow the courier guy to come up to my unit and hand it to me personally (isn’t supposed to be a door-to-door service?). Been wondering why the guy from Air 21 hasn’t knocked at my door yet. I was expecting it to arrive Wednesday, and yes it arrived Wednesday at 11:25am. If I have not called the guard house Thursday morning I wouldn’t know that the package has arrived. The guard even tried to cover it up and said to hubby, “Ay sir kakadating lang po nito kanina…ihahatid na lang po naming sa unit nyo, isasabay na lang po sa pag rounds ng roving guard…”. I was in rage but still trying to cool myself down. I called the courier and asked for the delivery details (the name of the person who received it, time and date of delivery), then I called the Admin office to escalate my concern. My point is, what if it was an important document…if it’s an important item…. I would not have it delivered door-to-door if I wanted to waste my time calling the guards and ask if my package has arrived. In the first place I did NOT authorize them to receive it.

Ranting aside…. My son is sooo happy with his new Avent bottles. I am happy as well because they are addition to his other feeding bottles and I can keep his small (4oz) bottles now. While waiting for these bottles to arrive, I settled for a cheaper (in material) brand which caused my son teary-eyed while feeding. I guess feeding bottles really matter. Thanks to Avent Airflex. Two thumbs up!!!

Good food. Sinful Desserts.

Food is my first love. Who doesn’t? I love every part of a meal from appetizers down to desserts. Hmmm…desserts? There’s a lot in my list and ranking them is just so hard. So I’m gonna list them in random order instead.

Chocolates – the most sinful of them all. I don’t care about all the calories, I just love it!

Leche Flan – my husband’s favorite. He just loves it especially if this to-die-for dessert is made by a family member or a friend. He feels the love with every spoonful. We don’t usually like those commercially made.

Cakes – there are different kinds. Chocolate cake is one and always in my list but my most favorite is the Caramel cake by Estrel’s. A colleague introduced this to me way, way back and ever since I’ve been ordering their cakes in every occasion in our lives. Every month we celebrate my son’s birth date. Out of his 7 months, we already had 5 caramel cakes by Estrel’s including his baptismal cake. Not to mention my sister’s birthday, my birthday, my husband’s birthday and so on. This is just the perfect caramel cake I’ve ever known.

Ice Cream – whether it’s cold or raining, every day could be an ice cream day for me. Chocolate marble was my first love but a lot of new flavors came out as time goes by. I’m a chocolate lover so any chocolate variant pleases me. ☺

Halo-Halo – yummy! My favorite of them all is Razon’s of Guagua Pampanga. I’m really not a fan of a dozen ingredients; all I want is the melted shaved ice in milk and syrup. And Razon’s halo-halo meets my preference. It has macapuno, sweetened banana, and leche flan. It’s not too sweet or too bland.

Donuts – well I really don’t consider this a dessert but sometimes when dinner is not satisfying at all, a follow up donut could seal the night. Country Style Doughnuts’ Chocolog is in my top list. The rest are Krispy Kreme’s honey-glazed donuts, Cello’s cheese flavored donuts, and Go Nuts Donuts.

Pastillas De Leche – it’s made of fresh milk, sugar, butter, and full-cream powdered milk coated in sugar. It can also be in other flavors like Nangka and Pinipig.

It's an endless list and so far these are all I can remember. Whatever mood we have, it is food that always brings us back to our sanity. Thank God for good food. Amen.

Amazing Way to Preserve Refrigerated Fruits & Vegetables

This was sent by my best friend who’s also a homemaker and a mother like me and I’d just like to share this with you. You may share this as well with your sisters, mothers, friends and anyone whom you think will benefit from this. I already did this today to save my veggies.

PRESERVE YOUR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES!!!

My Indonesian maid loves me so much that she shared with me a week ago that she found a way to preserve fruits and vegetables.

She said it was one of my aunts who taught her when she baby-sits at one family in KL.

That family was using "aluminum coated plastic bags" to keep their fruits and vegetables for weeks to keep them fresh.

I thought it’s a good idea to save some unwanted resource which most people would throw away. And here I am sharing with you the usefulness of an unwanted resource in action.

Here is the kind of aluminum coated plastic bag from Quaker. Any aluminum coated bag will do.

You can put as much fruits or vegetables as you want.

Look at what my mate found after 1 week...the vegetables are still fresh! Amazing isn't it? No dehydration at all. ☺

Look at the okras (ladies fingers) they are still very, very fresh without dehydration.

But don't fold or seal the opening of the bag. Just leave the bag open and it will do the magic work for you. Try it out... you would sure like it very much too.

**INSTEAD OF THROWING USEFUL THINGS AWAY, RE-USE IT, AND YOU WILL BE DEFINITELY JOINING THE GROUP OF 'SAVING THE MOTHER-EARTH' CAMPAIGN TOO.**

First Time

Mother's Day comes only once every year. Of all the days, it was this special day when I really got sick. It was supposed to be our first time to celebrate, but both Vhic and I were hit by colds few days before mommies' day. I was down with fever, colds & dry cough. Vhic had it too minus the fever. Janus was so exposed to these viruses since here was no one to look after him and take care of him but us. But thank God he never got sick...thanks to his immune system. The reason I felt so bad and made the situation more depressing, is because I couldn't even have a slice of cake for that special day :(

Anyway, being a mother has always been exciting for me. It's more than a roller-coaster ride. Though it's really hurting my back so bad, I always say that having a child is priceless. Very fulfilling. It has always been my dream; any woman's dream. I am thrilled to see my son grow up; when he starts to talk and say "mama" and "dada"; when he can already show his affection & appreciation to the things and people around him; when he can express himself thru gestures. I am happy when we play together. I enjoy our book-reading sessions. I enjoy our everyday conversations. I am excited to be my son's first teacher. I want to pass on to him the values that my parents' instilled me. I am excited to so many things. Sometimes I wish that he's a grown-up now, but he can only enjoy his childhood once. So I'll let him have his moment. No rush.

They say a mother's child is her "trophy". I did not understand what that meant before but now it's all clear to me. Being a mother is the best title that God gives a woman. Whether it's your own child, foster child, godchild, or nephews/nieces, only few are blessed.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. Let us be proud of ourselves because motherhood is a noble thing.

And to my Mommy Soy, happy mother's day to you. THE BESTEST MOTHER I must say!!! I miss you soooo much. How I wish you're around to guide me in bringing up Janus. I love you, Ma! Love, hugs, kisses and misses to you and Daddy.
